ELAC Co-Hosts Panel on the Military Use of AI at REAIM 2024

ELAC and the Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs co-hosted a discussion panel at the second Summit on Responsible AI in the Military Domain (REAIM) convened on September 9-10 in Seoul to discuss the future of governance efforts related to the use of AI in the military domain. Brianna Rosen, strategy and policy fellow at the Blavatnik School of Government (University of Oxford) and senior fellow at Just Security, chaired the session which featured Professor Kenneth Payne of King’s College London; Dr. Paul Lyons, senior director for defense at the Special Competitive Studies Project and a former U.S. Navy captain; Dr. Tess Bridgeman, co-editor-in-chief at Just Security and former U.S. National Security Council deputy legal adviser; and Professor Toni Erskine of the Australian National University.

Responsible Military Use of AI: Bridging the Gap Between Principles and Practice,” drew together leading ethicists, international lawyers, and military strategists to discuss how decision-makers can more effectively translate principles for AI governance into concrete global action.
