On 12 December, ELAC Deputy Director and IPS Executive Director Federica D’Alessandra and IPS Visiting Fellow Cecilia Jacob briefed the Group of Friends of the Responsibility to Protect (GOF) in Geneva on Cecilia’s new report, Mainstreaming Atrocity Prevention: Foreign Policy and Promotion of Human Rights for Atrocity Prevention. During the meeting, introductory remarks were made by H.E. Ambassador Shara Duncan Villalobos, Deputy Permanent Representative and Chargée d’Affaires of the Permanent Mission of Costa Rica. Dr Cécile Aptel, Deputy Director of the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR), also presented on the linkages between R2P, atrocity prevention and disarmament and opportunities for engagement of the GoF in disarmament activities in Geneva.
