IPS Co-Hosts Webinar on Future of UN Accountability Mechanisms

Sep 17, 2020

To kick off our convening ‘Anchoring Accountability for Mass Atrocities’, IPS Executive Director Federica D’Alessandra chaired a webinar, co-hosted with the International Bar Association War Crimes Committee, on the ‘Challenges and opportunities for a new generation of accountability mechanisms’. One of the most significant developments in international criminal justice in the past four years has been the establishment of a new generation of UN accountability mechanisms, e.g. the International, Impartial and Independent Mechanism for Syria (IIIM), the International Independent Mechanism for Myanmar (IIMM), and the UN Investigative Team to Promote Accountability for Crimes Committed by Da’esh/ISIL (UNITAD). The Heads of all three mechanisms, Catherine Marchi-Uhel, Nicholas Koumjian, and Karim Khan, QC, joined Federica and IPS Visiting Fellow Ambassador Stephen Rapp for a fruitful discussion. You can watch the webinar recording here.
