UK Approach to Atrocity Prevention: Report of International Development Committee Cites IPS Written Evidence

On 17 October, the International Development Committee published its report, From Srebrenica to a Safer Tomorrow: Preventing Future Mass Atrocities around the World, following a Parliamentary Inquiry convened on the effectiveness of the UK’s approach to atrocity prevention in December 2021. Our Programme on International Peace and Security (IPS) responded to the Inquiry’s call of evidence in a written submission authored by IPS Executive Director Federica D’Alessandra and IPS Research Assistant Gwendolyn Whidden. In its report, which cited the IPS submission eight times, the Committee urged the Government, in line with our team’s recommendation, to introduce a cross-departmental strategy for preventing and responding to mass atrocities globally, both within and outside of conflicts, which articulates the atrocity prevention objectives distinct from general conflict prevention objectives.
