On 7 March, our Co-Director Dapo Akande and IPS Executive Director Federica D’Alessandra participated in an online roundtable discussion on Coronavirus and Minority Rights, alongside Jonathan Wolff, the Alfred Landecker Professor of Values and Public Policy at the Blavatnik School of Government (BSG), and Maya Tudor, Associate Professor of Government and Public Policy (BSG). The event was co-hosted by the BSG and the Alfred Landecker Foundation and discussed the demonisation of some groups as supposed vectors of disease, the use of emergency government powers in ways that may disadvantage minorities and advance populist and nationalist agendas, and the deepening of pre-existing division and discrimination. The protection of minority rights in the context of the COVID-19 outbreak was considered from a political, legal and ethical perspective. The video of the event is available here.
