As part of a team of researchers at Essex Law School, Georgetown Law School, Duke Law School, and the Israel Democracy Institute, ELAC Co-Director Janina Dill was awarded a £1.5m from the ESRC and National Science Foundation joint scheme (SBE-UKRI) for a project entitled ‘Cumulative Civilian Harm in War: Addressing the Hidden Human Toll of the Law’s Blind Spot‘.
Over the three-years of the project, the team will develop a legal and policy framework that restricts cumulative civilian harm. The framework will guide military and political decision-makers in reducing cumulative civilian harm in war and will therefore better protect civilians than current guidance.
