Janina Dill Speaks on Moral Implications of Ukraine War

Mar 25, 2022

On 25 March, ELAC Co-Director Janina Dill spoke at a panel event, The War in Ukraine: A Philosopher’s Talk, hosted by the Oxford University Faculty of Philosophy. The discussion explored different moral, political, and legal perspectives on the ethical foundations of the war in Ukraine, and its possible implications. Dr Dill argued, inter alia, that NATO is not to blame for the war and called for a more nuanced debate about our duties toward Ukrainian refugees. Other panellists addressed issues such as the moral duties of Russian civilians, nuclear deterrence and escalation, the role of social media and uncertainty in moral decision-making and the implications of the war for just war theory. Speakers included Jeff McMahan, Helen Frowe, Massimo Renzo, Zofia Stemplowska and Elad Uzan.
