ELAC Senior Research Fellow Cheyney Ryan published a chapter, The Lament of the Demobilized, in a new edited volume titled To End a War: Essays on Justice, Peace, and Repair. The chapter explores the theme of ‘soldier pacifism’, or the idea that the grief of knowing war means the soldier can never fully return home, through memoirs, literature, poetry, as well as recent topics in just war theory.
Cheyney also has a forthcoming book, Lay Down Your Arms: Pacifism As War Abolitionism, which will be published by Routledge in late 2023 or early 2024.
