Jul 8, 2024

In a recent article by the Guardian, ELAC Co-Director Janina Dill stated that in the laws of war, reporting the news in Gaza is not direct participation in hostilities.

The article, ‘The grey zone’: How IDF views some journalists in Gaza as legitimate targets, is in response to the record number of media workers that have been killed in Gaza and Israel’s approach to targeting.

Dill stated, “Reporting the news is not direct participation in hostilities. Even if they reported the news in a biased way, even if they did propaganda for Hamas, even if Israel fundamentally disagrees with how they report the news. That is not enough.”
